Kenya Methodist University Health Center update

KARIBUNI 28 (Supplement) September, 2008

Dear Friends,

The work to expand the Kenya Methodist University Health Center (Clinic) has started on September 18, 2008. The roof of the existing clinic has been removed (see picture #2 above). The services offered by the clinic have been relocated to the University Chapel (for consultation and pharmacy) and, to the Science Building (for laboratory services). The renovation work is expected to be completed by January, 2009.

The picture (drawing) #3 above shows the locations of different rooms in the final expanded clinic as approved by the University. The part to the right of the vertical straight line (line X from top to bottom), without the top addition, indicates the existing clinic. The left part is the original expansion project proposed by Yema. The addition of top part was proposed by the University Management. This addition will be used as teaching and training area, with pharmacy on side.

The total estimate cost of the expansion is $293,695.00. Your contribution which has reached the University to date is $33,639.00. The University is committed to the project and is willing to support the amount of money that may not be covered by your support. The Advance Office of GBGM in New York is in the process of assigning an Advance project number to the Clinic. This will allow you to continue being a supporter of the Clinic for long time. When expansion expenses are paid off, the Clinic will continue to need your support in the form of equipments, medicines and even your services whenever you are in Meru.

Some of you have expressed the desire to be present during the dedication ceremony or to simply visit the clinic at own convenient time. We can arrange all this. Just let us know.

Your initiative has generated a lot of energy toward the improvement of the clinic. The community is willing to own the project now. This, in itself, is important.

Thank you all for your support to the people of Kenya.
